Christmas Cheer at the Chamber

Please mark your calendars now and make plans to join us for the increasingly popular Chamber of Commerce Annual Christmas Open House on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 – 8:00 (Ha…we are NEVER ready to go by 8:00!) We will have plenty of Food, Fun, Fellowship (Not officially networking if you are at a Christmas Party…::)) Drinks, Christmas Treats, and another Huge Bonfire if Mother Nature cooperates; she has not been happy with us this year but maybe she will be in the Christmas Spirit and provide us a nice evening. Last year it actually started snowing about 10 minutes before the party started and it made for the most beautiful setting for our party. Please help us celebrate all of the many wonderful blessings we enjoy by sharing the evening with friends. Hope to see you there!

Monthly Luncheon Speaker Announced

We are excited to announce that Wilson County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Executive Director; Ricky Rodriquez will be the speaker at the Monthly Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, November 18. This event is held at Victory Baptist Church on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Try to be there a few minutes after 11:00. The buffet line opens at 11:15 and the program will conclude no later than 12:30 each month. The cost to attend is $15.00 per person and that includes the meal, tons of networking, and a great program. Keep in mind, advance online registrations are required; we can not accommodate walkups. When guests show up unannounced we are in jeopardy of not having enough food or seats for those that did RSVP. Scrambling around at the last minute to set up more tables, try to find dishes, and getting out more seats makes for a very disruptive and distractive event. With our new security measures in place, we no longer keep customer credit card information on file. The result of these measures means we can not keep a standing reservation list and automatically process your credit card; each guest needs to individually pre-register for each luncheon. This is mutually beneficial in that our customers are provided extra financial security and we can keep a very detailed and accurate guest list. PLEASE RSVP online by 9:00 the day before to insure your seat. We appreciate everyone’s help and understanding.

Need a Meeting Room?

Are you a Home-Based Business or simply need a larger meeting room to use occasionally? Why not meet at the Chamber of Commerce. The conference room is equipped with Wi-Fi and can be used FREE of charge for any Chamber Members. The room can seat 12 comfortably and there is now plenty of parking. If you are interested, please call or email the office to reserve the room.

Regional Business After Hours

Don’t miss the Regional Business After Hours on Thursday, November 12 from 5-8:00 at the Nashville Convention Center. Nearly 20 local Chambers of Commerce are combining their efforts to host the largest event of this kind for 2009. Booth space and tickets are still available online (a link is provided on the Chamber Homepage www.mtjulietchamber.com ) This is a very unique opportunity to network with hundreds of your peers from all over the Nashville area. When you register, be sure to note on your registration that you are

FORD Books Now Available at Chamber

We would like to thank John L. Barker and his team at Two Rivers Ford for hosting the September Monthly Luncheon at the dealership. Even though we had a few sprinkles, it was a AWESOME event! Best selling author and Ford Motor Company employee Clifton Lambreth presented a great program and Active Entertainment provided a delicious cookout meal with all of the trimmings! Thank you to everyone who helped make this unique event so much fun. Many of those who attended have asked if we had any of the autographed books written by Clifton. We now have them at the office; all are signed and ready to take with you. The cost of each book is only $10 and we only have 14 left. Please stop by the Chamber at your earliest opportunity to pick yours up. They make great gifts for friends, co-workers, employees, or anyone who likes to read. If you know a FORD lover, this is a MUST read! You may pay with check, credit card, or cash.

Inaugural Wine Makers Dinner a Huge Success

“Here’s to You” Bottoms up to those who helped us with our 1st (hopefully to become an annual event!) Chamber of Commerce Wine Makers Dinner; “An Evening with Chateau Ross” hosted by our gracious hosts at Del Webb who provided the beautiful Del Webb Ball Room for this event. The evening consisted of a fabulous 4 course dinner provided by Chef Christopher's Catering, and wonderful wines provided by Chateau Ross and Jackson Downs Liquors to compliment each course. Everyone who attended this event had a great time and we want to thank John Sloan and Tammy Algood for getting the ball rolling and for turning this idea into reality.

"Pound It" During Flu Season

Flu season is upon us. I’m one of these people who have never had a flu shot and brag that I never get sick enough to visit the doctor. I don't think it's because I'm freakishly healthy. I think it's because I try to practice preventative health maintenance, especially during cold/allergy/flu season. I gargle with warm salt water and stock up on Echinachea tea (an herbal immune booster). When I feel that first sniffle or scratchy throat, I drink lots the hot tea with locally grown honey. I recently ran across some info in Natural Health magazine about the H1N1 virus and thought it was worth passing along. It’s always nice to have healthy, natural alternatives to help combat illness.

News from Ken Martin, City of Mt. Juliet ECD Director

With the holiday season just around the corner, there is no better time to support your local business community by buying and shopping Mt. Juliet and Wilson County first. The more we spend in our own community the more our community benefits, and so do we.As with any community, the importance of its citizens spending their hard earned tax dollars locally is vitally important to the community’s economy and its citizens. With Mt. Juliet’s rapid growth and new businesses literally opening daily we’re starting to see an even greater need to spend our tax dollars locally. Spending within your own community also helps delay, reduce or negate the need for increased taxes. For example, Mt. Juliet businesses depend upon our tax dollars for survival. They make huge investments in our local community in an attempt to provide a service or convenience and desperately need and deserve our support.  Our schools, businesses, roads and many other services depend on the local economy for survival. When a business sets up shop in Mt. Juliet their goal is to provide services and conveniences to local citizens. In return, the local economy gets a boosts from the additional revenue generated locally and a trickle down effect occurs. Without local businesses providing these much needed services citizens are forced to call on vendors in other cities and towns. As a result, these vendors have to drive and ship their merchandise further and that cost is passed on to the customer/consumer. Unfortunately, money spent in other cities and counties benefits that community and not ours.
