Nine Down...Three to Go (632)
A year ago this month the economic forecast and financial pundits who were painting a pretty gloomy picture all seemed to think that about the earliest we would begin to see the end of the economic downturn would be sometime in the fourth quarter of 2009. Well guess what? We are now entering the fourth quarter of 2009 and most would agree that we are finally seeing some good signs regarding the economy. In fact, there are even some days where there is more good news than bad and that is VERY encouraging!
With nine months of 2009 behind us and only three more to go, we are all hoping that the momentum continues to build and that by the time folks are ready to do their Christmas shopping the air is filled with laughter, the sound of music, and the ringing of cash registers! There is no question that many of us have had a pretty difficult time over the last year, and while we do not want to let our guard down completely, neither do we want to not be encouraged by the very real possibility that relief is finally in sight.

Regional Business After Hours Coming Soon!
The Mt Juliet / West Wilson County Chamber of Commerce will once again be partnering with the Nashville area Chamber of Commerce and nearly 15 other Chambers in the area for a Regional Business After Hours. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, November 12 from 5:00-8:00 at the Nashville Convention Center. Last year nearly 2,000 people attended, nearly 200 businesses had a booth (table top displays separated by poles and drapes) and 16 Chambers of Commerce were represented. This is a very unique opportunity for members of the MJ Chamber of Commerce to participate in an event attended by hundreds of prospects. Watch for your personal invitation in the mail soon and make plans to join us. If you are interested in having your business on display, give Mark a call to discuss the details. We are especially appreciative of Kevin Pigg and his team at Surviving Business for joining on as an Associate Sponsor. This will afford them a large display area right in the center of the main floor for all to see. Thank you for your support!
Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Pumpkins But Were Afraid To Ask...
Pumpkins are fruits. A pumpkin is a type of squash and is a member of the gourd family.
The largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds.
Pumpkins have been grown in North America for five thousand years. They are indigenous to the western hemisphere.
In 1584, after French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence region of North America, he reported finding "gros melons." The name was translated into English as "pompions," which has since evolved into the modern "pumpkin."
Pumpkins are low in calories, fat, and sodium and high in fiber. They are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron.
The largest pumpkin ever grown was 1,689 pounds. It was grown in Rhode Island.
Pumpkin seeds should be planted between the last week of May and the middle of June. They take between 90 and 120 days to grow and are picked in October when they are bright orange in color. Their seeds can be saved to grow new pumpkins the next year.

MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR!
It’s my favorite time of the year….Halloween! Well, it’s my second favorite. But, now that Lowe’s has their Christmas inventory out, we can officially begin celebrating the holiday season.
This serves as your reminder to stop by or call the haunted chamber mansion located on West Caldwell. Your chamber offers an assortment of goodies….including, chocolate covered ribbon cuttings, strawberry luncheons, marshmallow filled Retail Councils sprinkled with Women in Business. There are tons of treats and if you’re lucky…you may be greeted by one of the resident ghouls. Legend states that Count Hinesley and Spicer the Ghost will let themselves be seen only once a year.
So, start trick or treating early and come by 46 West Caldwell on Friday, October 11 at 11:30. You will leave with a bag full of goodies that your mother will not have to inspect. Drive safely!
A Toast to Tennessee Winemaker's Dinner

 The ABC's of Aging Gracefully
For my birthday, my friend Jennie Hibler (Active Entertainment) gave me a little desk plaque titled “The ABC’s of Aging Gracefully.” Unlike most silly over-the-hill gifts that people usually give for 50th birthdays, this is a really nice keepsake filled with great advice for any age. I read it pretty much every day and I’m proud to say I’m already doing (or have done) a lot of the things listed and look forward to doing the rest sometime in the future...sort of like a Bucket List. I thought it would be nice to share it with all of you. I especially like “E” and do it often, usually right after lunch. Dana Loggins would like for me to do more of “W”. But I think I’ll wait a while on “G” because I like being an unconventional granny, which fulfills "U"!

Look Who Is, Has or Will be Coming to Town!
I wanted to give everyone an update on who has, is or might be coming to town soon. With the economy showing some slight signs of improvement Mt. Juliet is really starting to see lots of activity. As a matter of fact, Mt. Juliet is the word on the streets in Nashville and surrounding communities when it comes to prospering communities and placed to live, shop, work and play. While other economies have been struggling, Mt. Juliet’s continues to thrive. I personally believe that is a direct result of our wonderful business community, fabulous residents and the fact that we are Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Need I say more?
Ok, enough about us and how great we are. But we really are great. In all seriousness, things are really looking up and going extremely well. For example, just look at the new business that have either opened recently, will open soon, are in the planning process or are looking to possibly locate here.
